Sloan's Lake

Ignore the “controversy” over this neighborhood’s official name. You will even find city signs declaring it (or at least its lake) as SLOAN Lake. But pronounce it that way, in the non-possessive form, and you’ll be laughed out of Northwest Denver. Sloan’s Lake is man-made, the result of a well-tapping gone wild in the 19th Century. Little did Thomas F. Sloan know his accidental lake (called Sloan’s Leak) would become the center point of one of Denver’s nicest neighborhoods. Barely three miles west of downtown, the big park feels more like a mountain retreat. Developers have caught on and replaced much of the aging housing stock with modern, contemporary rehabs and lofts.
