Three miles from I-70 at a heretofore deserted stretch of North Pecos Street, I attended the pre-construction grand opening of Midtown. It is advertised as a budding “boutique neighborhood,” and an affordable alternative to the Highlands, initially with about 180 home single-family dwellings planned at prices from the mid-$200’s to the mid-$300’s. Six model homes were open for viewing. The interior spaces in most regards are generously appointed, not skimpy or cheap—e.g., the exotic countertops, spacious showers, and lofty ceilings even in the basements. Outdoors, each home is thoughtfully separated from its neighbor by a passive space for playing and barbecuing. As a descriptor, “opulent” may overstate, unless you’re fresh from shopping the Highlands in the same price range.
