It is impossible to talk about Sunnyside without mentioning the Sunnyside Music Fest. It is one day only, in September, in an otherwise under-utilized park at 44th and Tejon. Chafee Park isn’t even in the Chafee Park neighborhood, to the north, where prices are a third lower. But it comes alive with eclectic acts like the Haunted Wind Chimes and the 3 Twins in a festival that resembles Sunnyside itself. Not the best known or priciest part of metro Denver, the Sunnyside hood blends 19th Century Victorian grandeur with low-income public housing. It is barely three miles to downtown—a distance that will seem even shorter when the Gold Line light rail rolls through around 2016.
