Five Points

Not one Denver dweller out of a dozen could identify the five “points” in Five Points. It is named for the intersection of Washington Street, 27th Street, 26th Avenue, and Welton Street. That’s where downtown Denver’s diagonal grid meets the rectangular grid pattern extending more broadly across the metro area. Five Points is a historic hotbed of jazz dating back to the 1950s, known for legendary late-night jams with Miles Davis, Billy Holiday, and Charlie Parker. It is still urban and urbane, more diverse but still built around music, food, drink, and grit. Elegant new lofts seem to spring up constantly among the colorful old Victorians.  Five Points  has been called “up and coming” for at least a generation.
